AWS Direct Connect is a service that gives you a dedicated, private network connection from your premises or data centre to AWS, instead of going over the public internet. That means more consistent latency, higher and more reliable bandwidth, stronger security and typically lower data-transfer-out costs. In India it's delivered through Direct Connect delivery partners who provide the connection and last-mile circuit.

Over the public internet, traffic to AWS is best-effort with variable latency. A site-to-site VPN adds encryption over that same internet path but performance still depends on the internet. Direct Connect is a private, dedicated physical link that bypasses the internet entirely — the most consistent and secure option, and often cheaper for high data-transfer volumes. Many businesses use Direct Connect with a VPN backup for resilience.

A hosted connection is provisioned through a delivery partner at sub-1 Gbps speeds — quick to set up and cost-effective for smaller, steady workloads.
